As the system starts to cool the space, the compressor operates at the correct frequency to begin the cooling cycle in order to attain the default targeted evaporating temperature ‒ 32 degrees Fahrenheit. As the system closes in on the desired target and all indoor units are within 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit of the temperature set point, the system will gradually raise the target evaporating temperature in a linear fashion for more efficient operation. When the system reaches the final target evaporating temperature, the compressor modulates, reducing the power and slowly dialing back the energy required to cool the space. All the while, the occupants continue to receive maximum personalized comfort, and building owners and facility managers notice a reduction in energy consumption and an improvement in operational system longevity. Optional settings are available for baseline evaporating temperatures of 37, 41 and 43 degrees Fahrenheit.
Although VRF’s initial equipment cost can be higher than that of some traditional systems, the operational costs are often lower because of its industry-leading efficiencies. Mitsubishi Electric’s L-Gen offers a 54 percent increase over previous generations, offering a substantial increase in efficiency and a decrease in operational costs.
